Cosmetic injectables and fillers are a quick and effective way to make your skin look smoother and more youthful by addressing the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles that tend to show up as we age.
You may have questions, though, about the timing of these filler treatments if you have a big event coming up where you want to look your best. Or you simply may want to make sure your next treatment comes in time to keep you looking young and vibrant.
At Melanie Adams Dermatology in Columbia, Maryland, we specialize in aesthetic treatments that help you look your best. Here’s what we typically tell patients about the timing of filler treatments.
Your schedule depends on the type of filler you need. Two of the injectables we use most often at Melanie Adams Dermatology are Juvéderm® and Botox®.
Juvéderm is a dermal filler that helps replace lost facial volume. It smooths out unwanted wrinkles, making your face look younger and more vibrant. Like most dermal fillers, Juvéderm offers quick results, but swelling and redness can occur.
If you’re anticipating an important event and you’re concerned about your appearance, schedule your treatment at least two weeks before the event so any redness and swelling have time to resolve.
Botox is a widely used neuromodulator that helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines caused by repeated muscle contractions. By relaxing those muscles so they don’t make the same movements over and over, Botox softens the appearance of the wrinkles and lines.
You can begin to see results from Botox in a few days, with the peak effect hitting in about two weeks. So you should also schedule Botox treatment a couple of weeks before the big event.
No injectable offers permanent results, so to maintain the positive effects, you need to repeat the treatment. Like most dermal fillers, Juvéderm provides results that last at least 6-12 months.
Botox injections usually begin to fade in 3-6 months, depending on your individual situation, so keep an eye on your wrinkles to know when to schedule your next treatment.
If you’re nearing the end of these treatment timeframes and you have an important event coming up, schedule your treatment a couple of weeks in advance so you can look your best.
