Melasma

Melasma is characterized by an uneven skin complexion consisting of blotchy patches and spots which appear darker than the natural skin tone. Classically, melasma may be caused by fluctuating hormones, which means that melasma is more commonly seen in women than in men. Pregnancy, birth control pills, and sun exposure may exacerbate the condition. Melasma is an ongoing condition that can flare up for years and needs continued treatment.
